the welcome project

We’re building a generational church, where faith comes alive, relationships grow deep, and love reaches beyond our walls.

Forest Park’s story isn’t just history—it’s a living testament to God’s unstoppable grace and love. For 145 years, He has shaped us, guided us, and woven His presence into every step of our journey. From our 1881 Muskegon beginning as Mission Covenant Church, to the downtown building in 1916, to our move here in 1983, we have seen His hand at work, leading us forward in faith.

This church isn’t built on bricks and mortar alone—it’s built on prayers, passion, and a people committed to glorifying God. Generation after generation, hearts have been transformed, lives have been changed, and our mission remains the same: to reflect His love and be part of His redemptive work in our community.

This is our story—God’s story—and it’s still unfolding.

How did we get here?

We are not starting at square one! We are continuing the hard work put forth by members, subject matter experts, and Covenant Church leaders.

Upcoming Events

Our journey includes two significant May weekends:
May 16–18
Where Rev. Dr. Keith Hamilton will visit and members will be
invited to consider spiritual and financial commitments

May 29–31
A celebration weekend culminating in a Celebration Dinner to
give thanks and express trust through commitments and offerings.

To continue to have a welcoming and functioning facility...

Many locations around our building are in need of repair or simply planned preventative maintenance in the coming years.

  • Roofs - We have five of them!

  • Parking lots - 5 in total

  • HVAC and Boilers - 25 total units

Outreach Tithe

To recognize the generosity of the Lord, our congregation, and donors, we will tithe 10% of all funds raised by this capital campaign.

FAQs

Why is a capital campaign necessary?

The finance team at FPCC strives to be good stewards of our resources but projects of this size require funds that are beyond what can be met by the regular and faithful giving of our congregation through the yearly budget.

How will the fundraising work?

The campaign will be funded by three year pledges to begin this year.
It is broken down into these categories:
    -Replacement & repairs
    -Renovations
    -Outreach Tithe
    -Campaign consultant
    -Unexpected costs
    -Effloresence Repair

What repairs are we focusing on?

Roofing replacement, parking lot replacement, HVAC, and southern gym wall efflorescence.

How much are repairs and replacements going to cost?

The Vision team, Capital Campaign team, Lead team and Finance team have worked together to calculate the projected the costs of specific repairs and replacements over the next 8 years: parking lots, roofs & HVAC systems. At this time the stimate is $722,000. The cost of the efflorescence repair remains to be determined.

What is the cost for a steel roof and what is the cost comparison to shingles?

We'll ask Weather Shield, our roofing company and look at what is the better option.

What is efflorescence and what are the options to stop it?

It is the powdery, or crystalline salt deposit that appears on the surface of concrete when water brings internal salts to the surface and evaporates, which has caused damage to the concrete blocks in the gym and children's wing.
Since the efflorescence affects multiple cement block walls, some of which have earthen berms while others do not, the resealing of the blocks below existing berms is unlikely to significantly change the current block deterioration. The most important question now is the source of the water that is getting into the wall; the most likely location is the top of the walls. When warm weather prevails, mason Jason Brown will inspect the tops of the gym walls using running water to try to identify the problem.

How much for the renovation?

$204,150 to renovate the main entrance, gathering area and sanctuary. See the proposed plans above in the Renovation tab.

Why are we not going with ideas we created in years past for the renovation?

These were thoughtful considerations for the church and serve as a basis for the current proposed renovations.

Would the renovations begin before we raise the money?

When pledges are committed, renovations could begin.

If demo is needed, can the congregation help with this?

Yes, volunteers would be welcome to help with some phases of the demo.

Would the rock stay if the wall is opened up in the main entryway?

There are a number of items to still be worked out. Once we have a starting date it will be posted here and communicated during our services

Would the rock stay if the wall is opened up in the main entryway?

This will be determined by the congregation--options include stay, relocate or remove.

Would a portico be considered in the renovation?

This is also for the congregation to decide.

When will we see work begin?

There are a number of items to still be worked out. Once we have a starting date it will be posted here and communicated during our services.
